La plupart des grandes
gares ferroviaires sont construites à la fin du XIXe
siècle. Elles desservent les plus grandes villes. Contrairement
aux gares plus petites elles ne sont pas standardisées
et chaque projet fait l'objet d'un plan original. Ces gares,
symboles autant des villes que des compagnies de chemin de
fer, ont un aspect monumental digne de châteaux dont
elles reprennent certains motifs. Ces gares possèdent
quasiment toutes des verrières à ossatures métalliques
plus ou moins intégrées aux bâtiments
voyageurs en maçonnerie traditionnelle.

Most of the major railway stations are
built at the end of the 19th century. Its serve the biggest
cities. Unlike smaller stations, they are not standardized
and each project is the subject of an original plan. These
stations, symbols of both towns and railway companies, have
a monumental appearance worthy of castles, from which they
take up some patterns. Most of the stations have metal-framed
canopies that are more or less integrated with traditional
masonry passenger buildings.
